Today's Union Tribune headline caused me quite a bit of initial confusion: "Five beauty queens left after competition." Why did they leave, I wanted to know? Were they upset about something?
After some thought I figured out what the headline was trying to convey. But still, that's a nice example of why verbs are good. People should use them.
