Doh! They sure have this thing down to a science. Last week they said to expect the hair loss from the chemo and radiation to start this week. They practically said, "On Wednesday, beginning at 11 am."
And so it was.
I thought this would be the most traumatic part of the recovery process for me. My hair! No!!! Not that it was great hair to begin with, as I have been reminding myself. I had been thinking for months before this event anyway that perhaps I should just cut it all off and try for that clean start. So it could have been worse, and I could have had much more of myself invested in it than I did.
But as has proved with all the other stuff, even this is really not that bad. I'm getting serious thinning more than total baldness. Everything on the top of my head down through the back is firmly intact, so it looks like I'm going to end up with a bit of a mohawk. I have my bangs still, which I can fluff out from under my hats. And for whatever reason my lashes and eyebrows are--so far--okay. They say everyone is different--it's strange how this radiation stuff affects people.
In the mean time, I'm sort of getting on board with the idea of trying out outrageous new hairstyles via a couple of funky wigs. I like that idea better than the one where you're basically just trying to pretend you're normal and that nothing has happened. Why not explore? I'm thinking bright magenta, maybe purple. Definitely we'll want to see what it feels like to be blond.
Stay tuned for pics!

I think you'll look quite striking. Takes a good-looking lady to pull off that look, and you certainly are one.
But hey, let's go shopping together for some wigs. I'm looking for some curly blond ones that make me look like Lady Gaga.
There's a decent wig shop just across the street from the Mission Cafe in North Park (http://www.themissionnp.signonsandiego.com/). A friend just bought a really nifty purple one! Wanna do breakfast/brunch and some wig shopping?
Just saw these comments today (12/20)! Sorry for the delayed response! But yes, it turns out wig shopping is really quite the thing. I LIKE these guys. I'm not sure I'll ever spring for a hair cut again--why should I, when I can just do this?!!
