While I was busy touting the wonders of the flax seed oil diet yesterday and outlining that pristine, feel-good menu plan, I omitted mentioning that I follow that diet only until about 3 pm, at which point I begin consuming cookies.
Cookies are something about which I am completely unreasonable. I always set myself reasonable limits ("Okay! You can have ONE! Well, all right, maybe two.") And then I break them.
It's just that cookies are so good.
One way to avoid the splurges is to just not let yourself do the Christmas baking. There have been several years when I did just that. But not this year. My brother and family arrive today, and we will need to have goodies to feed them when they visit--preferably goodies at my own home and over here at my parents' house, as well. Every potential visiting spot must be covered. This means--you got it!--double batches of everything.
So this year I made big fat chewy sugar cookies sprinkled with cinnamon (snickerdoodles); molasses cookies; cranberry bread; and date-nut bread. I made double-batches of everything, kept some to eat now, and froze the rest. That should last us a bit.
SHOULD, anyway. If I stop eating it all.
The other thing I did yesterday was organize my web pages--something I've been meaning to do for years. I'm very addicted to making web pages--I've never been particularly artistic, so designing pretty web pages is my sole creative outlet. I think webpages are kind of like collages--you rely mainly on other people's talent for the look of of the thing, then you mix it up to form something a little new. Here is a link to a current list of the courses I circulate through. I do hope you like them.
