more embarrassing teaching moments

A friend of mine, who shall remain unnamed, was once teaching a large-enrollment lecture course using the portable mic. During the break, she left class and wandered down the hall to use the ladies facilities. While in the, uh, stall, she looked down and noticed she was still wearing the mic.

And it was on.

A similar story: When I was "downsized" from one tech job, I decided to use my severance to fulfill my childhood dream of working (for a year or so) at a book store. (Two mistakes here: 1 - B&N is NOT a real book store, and 2 - going into retail is a bad idea when one of your goals is ridding yourself of contempt for your fellow man.) While at B&N, one of the tasks given to a closing bookseller was giving the periodic "you have N minutes left yadda yadda" announcements. No one liked to do it, least of all my terminally shy co-worker. When it was his turn one night, he actually took the phone into the back office so no one would see him giving his spiel. "The time is now 10:55 and B&N will be closing in 5 minutes. Please take your selections to the front registers for purchase. B&N will re-open tomorrow morning at 9am. Have a nice night... *failed attempt to hang up phone* ... ya bastids!" The staff and most of the customers thought it was funny, at any rate.
