No, I didn't eat him. But I probably did succeed in turning him into a most tasty little appetizer for someone. I read up on the web, and discovered that vegetable oil does indeed free the little critters from their sticky traps. So I dribbled him with oil, walked him up the street to a nearby canyon, and carefully pried him off with a q-tip. He was very well oiled by the time I was done with him. He scampered off into the bushes, where I've no doubt he lasted about an hour before being devoured by a grateful hawk.
But hey. At least it's not on my hands. And that hawk will remember that meal for years.

Or, perhaps the oil helped facilitate either a slippery escape or a sticky twig-and-leaf camouflage, depending on the mouse's viscosity! I will have to remember that trick, just in case.
Jumping from mice to other small, cute things, if I may be the bearer of glad tidings, Mr. Richard Shea is now a proud daddy! So far just one pic up at http://www.flickr.com/photos/justkristin .(She's the only baby in my whole collection, I think.)
Wow--thanks for letting me know about Richard! That's great news. Beautiful picture of the baby, too!
