progress

Today I can tie a scarf around my head, with that behind the head, right over left motion that you need to tie a knot. It's trickier than you might think, and yesterday I couldn't do it. I can put on my own pants, and even tuck buttons into buttonholes. All this without feeling my right arm or hand at all. Do we have any idea how many times our brains map out a course of movements through the day, whereby we negotiate over-under, inside out, backward and reverse? It's amazing, when you have to think about it. I knew this would happen--that the brain would remember the patterns, even if I couldn't think logically how to piece them together. It's wild to live in that zen world of trust, but there's really no where else to be right now.

Wow...in only a few months it seems like lifetimes of change have occurred. I had no idea about your condition (and from the sound of it neither did you).I was also pleasantly surprised to read about your engagement! I'm so happy for you and so happy that you are embracing this time of challenge with such an academic and open-minded approach. You inspire me as you always have! So...I must insist that in your physical therapy you have them help you re-learn how to lift martini glasses because lemon drops sound so much more appropriate than high tea! As I said before, if you need anything at all from me don't hesitate to ask! I can crochet a mean scarf and make a wicked cup of espresso!

Keep at it, professor! I know how hard it can be just to get your body to move out of bed in the morning. Although my situation is different, in that I feel horrible pain and have arthritis, but I understand SOME of those limitations. How are you doing at getting in/out of cars? Okay?
